Scholarship Program - Announcement Invitation to Prospective Applicants – High School Seniors 2007-2008 Suitably qualified students are invited to apply for a freshman year scholarship of $2,500 to pursue an accredited 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree or a program of vocational/technical training which results in certification or licensing. A total of four scholarships will be awarded. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors at Westside High School in Houston ISD and Westchester Academy for International Studies and the Guthrie Center in Spring Branch ISD. Applicants must be American citizens or have permanent resident status. The selection criteria will include provision/completion of the following: 1. A 300 to 500 word essay on prescribed topic. 2. An interview with Rotary Scholarship Committee 3. Completed application form containing the following: · SAT or ACT scores · Cumulative GPA · List of extra-curricular activities · List of community/volunteer and employment activities · Status of application to a University to pursue an accredited 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary vocational/technical training institution. 4. Transcript 5. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation These scholarship awards will be based on the need for financial support, and academic and leadership performance. Or you can obtain an application form from your school counselor. Application packets should be mailed to the Scholarship Committee, Rotary Club of West Houston, P.O. Box 440445, Houston, Texas 77244-0445 or turned in to your school counselor. Applications must be postmarked (or logged in by counselor) by Friday, May 2, 2008. A Rotary representative will collect applications from counselors at each school. Applicants will be notified of their status. Finalists will be scheduled for Scholarship Committee interviews that will occur no later than May 20. Winners will be notified by May 27, 2008.
