The Rotary Club of West Houston proudly sponsors the West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM).  For several years we have provided financial support for WHAM who this year celebrates a quarter century of service to children, families and homeless individuals in crisis.  To learn more about how you can help WHAM, click on the 25 year logo.

 


 

Chartered in 1984, The Rotary Club of West Houston is a local, not-for-profit service organization that is one of the more than 30,000 Rotary clubs operating in more than 160 countries world wide with more than 1.2 million members under the umbrella of Rotary International. Our Club’s current membership total stands 19. One of our focuses in this Rotary year is to increase our membership.

 

Members of the Rotary Club of West Houston are male and female business owners, managers, or professionals who have an interest in fellowship with other members of the local business community and who have a desire to serve the overall local, national, and international community to carry out a variety of humanitarian and educational service projects.

 

The Rotary Club of West Houston meets for lunch every Tuesday at 12:15 at the Omni Westside Hotel located at Interstate 10 (Katy freeway) and Eldridge Parkway in Houston, Texas. The Omni provides us with excellent facilities and meals at a cost of only $13. Our Club is known for the quality of food service and our friendly “laid back” fellowship. Goals and Objectives

 

Membership

  • Encourage regular attendance of club members to try to maintain at least an 80% attendance rate.

  • Develop a recruiting plan by preparing a new member application package including an application form, a past recent copy of The Rotarian, and a brochure with information about the club and Rotary.

  • Print an updated information brochure about the club and Rotary.

  • Assign an experienced Rotarian member as a mentor for each new member.

  • Continue red badge orientation program for new members and get them involved in some of the club projects.

  • Encourage club members to provide interesting weekly speakers through a membership roster, appoint a member to supervise this.

 Public Image

  • Appoint a club member to notify district website and media about club activities.

  • Appoint club member to update our website for information to other clubs and public.

 Club Service

  • Organize a club day project – on a Saturday – to help sort the books at the warehouse for Rotary Books for the World some time in the fall.

  • Continue success of this year’s fundraiser to provide scholarships for local high school seniors.

  • Organize fall, Christmas and spring fellowship events.

  • Educate members on what the Foundation is and schedule a program to describe international service, possibly in conjunction with water project.

 Vocational Service

  • Participate in RYLA and get information to local school counselors in time.
  • Sponsor an Ambassadorial Scholar.

 Community Service  

  • Continue support of local immunization clinics, book and school supplies for Sherwood Elementary, support of West Houston Assistance Ministries from weekly raffle.

  • Repeat Salvation Army bell ringing at Christmas.

 International Service  

  • Initiate an international water project through either Living Water International or Engineers without Borders with a matching grant.  Get a representative from either of these organizations to do a presentation at a club meeting.
